The Cataclysm

At the heart of the Windless Peaks in the Heart of the World, stands…well…stood the great mountain Thunderheim. Standing so tall that the clouds ringed only its lower half, the mountain was so tall and impossibly steep that it was often thought to have been crafted by Kyran, the God of the Forge, as a home for the gods.

That was, of course, until The Cataclysm. Over five hundred years ago, a fire descended from the heavens and smashed into the base of the mountain, crushing its base. The towering peak crumbled and fell to the Southeast, leveling the once great seat of Human civilization, Levealto. As the mountain fell, a great chasm (later known as the Skrij Depths) opened in the earth to swallow it up, stretching from the Windless Peaks all the way to the Western Sea. This chasm bisected the ancestral nation of the Gnomish people. Cities, towns, and even Tihomir Academy, the great school of Elemental and Planar magic, were swallowed by the expanding chasm. It would be two centuries before the gnomes would re-unite their people and the western half of the world by building the bridge-city of Walraven.

After the devastation, all that was left of Thunderheim was a broken peak and a chasm stretching to the sea. The Cataclysm had separated the Gnomish people, crushed the entire Human civilization, and sundered the world.
